Dear Zane Middle School Families,

Today was the official start of the 2020-21 school year and we are off to a fabulous start. I had the opportunity to drop into several Google Meets to meet students and welcome them back to school. Although this is not a traditional start to the school year, I can tell you that the Zane staff have been working hard to make the beginning of the year as seamless as possible. This is definitely a time of uncertainty as we navigate through these unprecedented challenges. With that in mind, we are making grace and empathy the cornerstone of our operations. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns as we are here to support you and your student.

Zane Middle School has had some staffing changes for the 2020-21 school year. First, let me introduce myself. I am Tammi Wagner and I have the distinct honor and privilege of serving as the new principal here at Zane. This is my 24th year in education, serving all of those years in the Eureka City Schools District. I have had the opportunity to serve a diverse group of students as an elementary teacher, reading intervention teacher, instructional coach and elementary principal. I have sought to ensure the success of each student and school by providing the best instructional practices and supports possible. I am excited that the next chapter of my career will be serving as the principal of Zane Middle School where I will have the opportunity to carry on this work.

Next, I would like to introduce Corinne Christiansen, Vice Principal of Zane Middle School. Ms. Christiansen believes strongly in two principles, “Seek First to Understand,” and “Servant Leadership”. As a result, my role as a school leader is to listen deeply to the needs, strengths, challenges, joys and sorrows of all of the school community (staff, students, parents, partners, etc.) and then do everything I can to support our community to grow and flourish. Growing a culture of trust, connection and communication is vital. Ms. Christiansen’s background includes being a SPED/ English/Social Studies teacher for more than 25 years and a school leader for the last six years. Her favorite part of both teaching and leading has been helping students develop the skills and strategies needed to overcome any challenges and grow into their potential.

I hope that you will take every opportunity to become involved with our Zane Middle School Community, through joining our PTA, School Site Council, ELAC Committee, or attending and supporting school events. Even though we are starting the year virtually there are ways for you to be involved. Please Like Zane Middle School on Facebook to receive updates regarding upcoming events. Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child.

I am privileged to be a part of this school community. It is the people that help to make Zane wonderful! When school and family work as partners towards the same goal, every child will succeed. As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to schedule an appointment with me through our school secretary to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas you would like to share to help make this the best year yet!

See you soon,

Tammi Wagner, Principal

Orientation Week Schedule
April 6, 2020

Dear Zane Students and Families,

I hope that you and your families are well. By this time, you have heard the announcements from our local and state officials that school buildings will be closed through the end of the school year. Although our first priority is student and community safety, the staff at Zane is deeply saddened by the fact that we will not be together in person. We miss our students and families.

Our commitment is to support you and your family during these challenging times. We believe that our online distance learning model will provide the best possible learning outcomes for our students. In order to support families and students as we transition to online learning, Zane staff have been making personal phone calls to ensure that families have what they need. We have loaned out more than 100 Chromebooks to Zane students who needed them. Our school district has boosted the wireless access into the parking lots at all of our school sites and we continue to work with community partners to increase and bolster internet capabilities to our families. If you find that you are in need of any support to access our online learning platform, please contact our school office at 441-2470.

In addition, Zane’s 4th Quarter Distance Learning Expectation and Grading Policy has been posted to this site, to Zane’s Facebook page, and to Zane’s Google Classroom pages. In regards to the packets handed out during 3rd Quarter, please contact your individual teachers to see how they would like to account for the work.

Please continue to take care of yourself, your families, and your community. Thank you for supporting Zane Middle School.
